Francesca Magnani contributed to the the development of a new angiotensin receptor peptide agonist with enhanced stability in serum compared to the parent compound. Moreover, the novel analogue discriminates between the 2 angiotensin receptors that are characterised by opposing biological functions, binding more tightly the Angiotensin type-2 receptor with consequent neurotrophic effect.. This H2020 project is funded by the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU), a public-private partnership between the European Union (H2020 program) and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC). Within SMARTBOX, eleven participants from eight European countries will work together to develop innovative ways of transforming biomass into added-value bio-aromatics. Our contribution consists in engineering and characterize effective biocatalysts under a biochemical and structural point of view.

Callum R. Nicoll, our Oxytrain PhD fellow, published an article in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, where the structure and evolution of the flavin-containing monooxygenases, a key system in human drug metabolism, are described.
