Press Release
March 3, 2012 - Museum Day at the Museum of Electrical Technology in Pavia.
March 3, 2012 there will be a celebration at the Museum of Electrical Technology of Pavia on
the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Museum.
Central moment of Museum Day 2012 will be, at 9.45 am, the Annual Conference
(Annual Lecture) by Dr. Paolo Brenni, CNR researcher and President of the Scientific Instrument Commission (IVHPS/DHST),
who will develop a historical reflection on the use of high-voltage and high-frequency electric currents in electrotherapy.
Between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries high-voltage and high-frequency electric currents were systematically used in medical laboratories
for the treatment of many pathologies. But the fascinating properties of high voltage and high frequency currents were
also exploited by magicians and charlatans for "scientific shows" in the squares. Even today, visitors to science and
technology museums are still impressed by the surprising effects of such currents.
Subsequently, the setting up of the REO ELETTRONICA store will be inaugurated and then transferred to the section of
the Museum dedicated to the last fifty years. This section lacked the opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary development
of electronics and its impact on various technologies. The donation to the Museum of a shop, well known in Pavia, of electrical
and electronic components has made it possible to fill this gap.
For the whole day of March 3, old and new friends of the Museum will have the opportunity to freely visit the Museum exhibitions.

The electronic components shop
The electronic components shop "REO ELETTRONICA" opened in Pavia in 1978 on the initiative of
Federico Aldo Roncelli, electronics enthusiast and radio amateur with the initials I2 REO (I=Italy, 2=Lombardy).
The activity began in the garage of the family house with the shelves and benches built by hand and with computerized
management of the warehouse. The shop sold electrical and electronic components and instruments and, in addition, sound
and visual recording and reproduction equipment, calculators, the first personal computers with accessories, manuals,
amateur radio equipment, soldering irons and antennas. The frequency meters were designed and manufactured directly by I2 REO.
It was a familiar, efficient and dynamic shop where not only the products were sold but also an appropriate technical
consultancy was carried out according to the customer's requests. In 1985 it became one of the twenty stores in Italy
protagonists of the large electronic distribution and the following year it received the "Work and Progress" Award for
the high economic and social development given to the country. The activity ended in 2002.
