Federico Pirzio was born in Broni (PV) on May 29th, 1978. He received the degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pavia (110/110) in March 2003, and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science in January 2007. From June 2007 to September 2011 he’s been post doctoral fellow at the Electronics Department of the University of Pavia. Since October 2011 to June 2020, Federico Pirzio has been assistant professor at the University of Pavia. Presently Federico Pirzio is Associate Professor of Physics at the University of Pavia.

Dr. Pirzio is a member of the research staff of Laser Source Laboratory of the University of Pavia since 2003 and he is responsible for the Laboratory since 2016. His research topics are the design and numerical modeling of diode pumped solid state lasers sources and laser systems in every functioning regime (continuous wave, nanosecond and sub-nanosecond Q-Switching regime and picosecond and femtosecond mode-locked regime), design of nonlinear frequency conversion stages based on both harmonic generation, parametric down conversion and stimulated Raman scattering, characterization of new laser materials and saturable absorbers for ultrafast lasers. A more detailed description of the research activity of Dr. Pirzio can be found here.

Dr. Pirzio is co-author of about 70 papers on peer-reviewed international journals, about 50 communications at national and international conferences (3 invited presentations) and is co-author of 2 chapters in books. He serves as Associate Editor for OSA Applied Optics and as referee for the principal peer-reviewd journals in the field of optics and laser physics.

His teaching activity involves courses in classical mechanics, classical electromagnetism and quantum electronics for engineering students at the University of Pavia. He has taken part in the coordination of the experimental work of thesis students for the Bachelor and Master degree in Optoelectronic Engineering at the University of Pavia and Ph.D students in photonics.
