It is on the railway connecting Milano to Genova and very close to the highways connecting Milano to Genova (A7) and Torino to Piacenza (A21). By planeYou can fly to one of Milan's three airports: Linate (50 km from Pavia), Malpensa (90 km from Pavia) or Orio al Serio (70 km from Pavia). If you arrive to Linate airport, the cheapest and easiest way to reach Pavia is to take one of the six direct shuttle buses at 9.00, 11.50 a.m - 2.00, 5.00, 8.30 p.m. - it takes 60 minutes (download timetable). As an alternative, you can take a bus to Milan's central railway station (Stazione Centrale) or a taxi, which is however an expensive choice. Both alternatives will take about 30 minutes. From Milan's central railway station, you can take a train to Pavia. The Milan-Pavia train ride takes 25-40 minutes (see: http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html ) depending of the train you choose. Some trains require a supplemental ticket. If you arrive at Malpensa airport, you can take a train (Malpensa Express: http://www.malpensaexpress.it/en/index.php) that leaves every 30 minutes to Cadorna station in Milan (duration: 40 minutes). Cadorna station in Milan is on the same underground line (green line) as the Milan central station. From Milan's central railway station you can take a train to Pavia. Another alternative is to take a Shuttle
Bus
(if there is one at your arrival time) to the Central
Railway Station.
Tickets can be bought in the Airport hall near the exits
to the bus
lines. This way you arrive directly at the railway
station. If you arrive at Orio al Serio airport, you can take one of the 25 daily runs from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm direct to Milan's central railway station. From Milan's central station, you can take a train to Pavia. The Milan-Pavia train ride takes 30-40 minutes. You can take a train from Milan's central station directly to Pavia (direction to Genova). The train ride from Milan to Pavia takes about 30-40 minutes. By carYou can take motorway A7 (pay toll), exiting at Bereguardo (Pavia North). You will find yourself on a free motorway that will take you straight to Pavia (10 km from Bereguardo). Follow the signs to Pavia centro / stazione and then for the University. Moving and Parking in Pavia Most accomodations are in the town centre at a walking distance from the conference location (the town centre is relatively small, you can walk edge to edge in 15-20 minutes. Less than 10 minutes from the railway and bus station to the University (central buildings) or to the conference venue. The conference location is in a traffic restricted area. When you arrive at the railway station you can get a bus (line 3 towards the town centre; it goes through Corso Cavour and Corso Mazzini) or take a taxi: moving to a location in the town centre by taxy costs 6-10€. Moving by car is less easy than walking or using buses (ticket 1.05€ validity 1 hour - city lines only). Parking fares range from 0.60€/hour to 1.50€/hour, depending on the area (higher towards the centre). On Sunday, parking is free. On Saturday, it depends on the areas.
