The activity focuses on research projects on the acoustic communication in animals, the development of equipment and protocols for the monitoring and censusing with passive acoustics, the development of advanced sound analysis methods based on the digital processing of signals, the establishment of a Digital Sound Library of Mediterranean Cetaceans as well as the technical support to other institutions involved in bioacoustic research and in the conservation of marine mammals. Since 1998 CIBRA is involved in international research programs concerned with the design of mitigation protocols and tools to reduce the impact of anthropogenic noise on marine mammals and, more recently, on the preservation of terrestrial soundscapes with a dedicated Soundscape and Ecoacoustics Laboratory. Since 2006 CIBRA manages the National Stranding Network Database on behalf of the Italian Ministry of the Environment.
Research and education activities
are addressed at the understandings, management and
conservation of the natural environment and its
ecosystem services. These activities are developed
within the framework of the ONU 2030 Agenda, in
particular concerning goals 14 and 15. |

Nella sede del
CIBRA viene tenuto il corso di "Bioacustica"
(facoltativo, 6 cfu) per le Lauree Magistrali in
Scienze della Natura e in Biologia Sperimentale e
Applicata. I temi principli sono la bioacustica,
l'ecoacustica e l'inquinamento acustico sia in
ambienti terrestri che marini, nonchè la emergente
"computational bioacoustics". Sono disponibili
diversi temi per tesi
di laurea magistrale e di dottorato. Sono
disponibili anche tesi per la laurea triennale sia
in Scienze della Natura che in Biologia. Disponibili
anche tesi interdisciplinari per altri corsi di
laurea.
